Sarasota, Florida, BSWANKY, a luxury handbag designer and manufacturer honors the indomitable spirit of their immigrant workforce through a give back handbag, donating 50% of the profits to Enterprising Latinas!

When it came to BSWANKY’s attention that an organization in Wimauma, Florida was “Being the Difference” by providing training and support to Latina women to pursue their personal and economic goals, they had to get involved.

After meeting with Enterprising Latina’s founder Liz Guiterrez, BSWANKY’s Gretchen Bauer decided that not only would they partner with these women for employment, but also create a limited-edition line of hand painted handbags representing these women’s indomitable spirit. The new handbag design is a purse with a purpose, benefiting Enterprising Latinas.

“We’re so grateful to be able to support Enterprising Latina’s mission that is dedicated to the economic empowerment of low-income Hispanic women in Tampa Bay. Not only can our customers own a limited-edition transformational handbag that’s a one of a kind piece of art, but they can know that the partnership of our two likeminded organizations will continue to support and empower these so very deserving women!” said Bauer.

Artist Cherie Fruehan graciously created a one of a kind piece of art on leather illustrating the women whom it will benefit at both BSWANKY and Enterprising Latinas. To honor both groups of courageous immigrant women BSWANKY seamstresses will be creating 25 unique limited-edition handbags representing the Indomitable Woman.

Fruehan’s quote on The Indomitable Woman speaks to this effort:

“It doesn’t diminish us, as women, to raise up other women. It strengthens us, as individuals, and as a community. Let us empower our sisters—let us see them, nurture them, teach them and support them. Let us give them the tools they need to become the best versions of themselves, in turn, creating a continual circle of impassioned strength, love and understanding. Creating better individuals creates better communities and creates a better world. Be a part of this revolution. B The Difference.”

In a recent ABC 7 Suncoast View segment, BSWANKY CEO Gretchen Bauer shared her passion for BSWANKY’s mission and the importance of the unique nurturing company culture, the incredible team of immigrant seamstresses, and the BSWANKY sustainable partnership with Everglades python hunters that helps to restore Florida’s ecosystem.

Stocks rise on Wall Street as rally stretches to fourth day

Feb 22, 2020

NEW YORK — U.S. stocks rallied Monday, rising with European and several Asian markets following surprisingly strong reports on China's economy. Growth in factory activity and retail sales in the world's second-largest economy both beat analysts’ expectations for last month. That layered on top of optimism from last week’s long-awaited “Phase 1” trade deal between China and the United States, which removed some of the uncertainty that’s hung over businesses and investors. The interim trade deal is one of a “trifecta of positive catalysts” that swept through the market last week and could help support it through the end of...

Kentucky gov's race stirs clash over casino suicide claims

Feb 22, 2020

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Entering the final days of Kentucky's bitter race for governor, Republican incumbent Matt Bevin exposed himself to a new attack by flatly denying his recorded claim that suicides happen nightly in casinos. Telling a debate audience Saturday night that the truth matters, Bevin challenged his opponent to produce a tape proving his denial wrong. Democrat Andy Beshear offered up the audiotape Sunday. The televised exchange turned Bevin's summer radio interview on WKDZ into a talking point for Democrats heading into the last full week of campaigning in the close gubernatorial contest. In the interview, Bevin claimed, without...

CLEVELAND — The nation's three dominant drug distributors and a big drugmaker have reached a tentative deal to settle a lawsuit related to the opioid crisis just as the first federal trial over the crisis was due to begin Monday, according to a lead lawyer for the local governments suing the drug industry. The tentative deal, details of which were to be announced later Monday, settles claims brought by the Ohio counties of Cuyahoga and Summit against distributors AmerisourceBergen, Cardinal Health and McKessen and the manufacturer Teva. After five drug manufacturers, including Johnson & Johnson, reached settlements leading up to...

Schumer calls for federal probe of contaminated baby food

Feb 22, 2020

NEW YORK — The Senate's top Democrat is calling on the Food and Drug Administration to examine a report that found dozens of baby food products contaminated with lead and other metals. Sen. Chuck Schumer says Sunday the FDA must take more action to regulate the baby food industry. A study by Healthy Babies Bright Futures found the presence of heavy metals in 95% of the 168 baby foods that were tested. The study found 95% of the food tested contained lead, arsenic, mercury or cadmium. It found one in four baby foods that were tested contained all four metals....
