The global food and beverage sector is set for a windfall thanks to the impending need for foods. Foods and beverages are a constant necessity and form a major part of diets of consumers globally. The growing urbanization in Asia Pacific and Latin America is likely to create more prospects for the sector in the coming years, as the demand for food and beverages is dominated by the urban demographic, which is becoming increasingly affluent.

Millennials exhibit higher spending on food and beverage products than their generational counterparts, which tend to focus on cost-saving rather than splurging money on basic needs. Changing lifestyles of this demographic as well as others has led to food manufacturers developing fortified foods and beverages. These foods aid in alleviating stress and assist in ensuring continuous sleep cycles. Moreover, local flavors are gaining prominence in order to satiate the growing tastebuds of consumers. Various food & beverage manufacturers are introducing local flavors in international dishes and drinks to highlight authenticity.

Veganism has become a talking point due to the nutritional value found in plants and plant-based foods. The need for naturally grown substances over processed foods is expected to propel the movement and drive innovation in the sector. Low-calorie content and leaning towards healthy lifestyles can increase the follower count. Various foods manufacturers have invested in research and development to create separate divisions for production of meatless snacks.

Beverages such as teas and coffees continue to bring in high returns thanks to rituals and traditions followed worldwide. Tea varieties have been introduced categorized according to aromas and flavors giving consumers a plethora of choices. Snacks accompanied at teatimes are being advertised to boost sales of both products.

Innovative fashion designers lead the way on sustainability

Jan 27, 2020

LONDON — Innovative fashion designers are turning to such things as horseradish and nettles to make sustainable clothing and accessories to the delight of a growing number of buyers. While more consumers are paying closer attention to how the production of goods impacts the environment, old habits die hard. A buy-and-toss mentality persists despite a boost from celebrities helping to drive the upcycle and vintage movements. Actress Maggie Q, who created an activewear line from recycled fabrics, is among activists who see plenty of room for improvement. She says she feels "sick about fast fashion.'' "You hear people say, 'Well,...

Stocks rise on Wall Street as rally stretches to fourth day

Jan 27, 2020

NEW YORK — U.S. stocks rallied Monday, rising with European and several Asian markets following surprisingly strong reports on China's economy. Growth in factory activity and retail sales in the world's second-largest economy both beat analysts’ expectations for last month. That layered on top of optimism from last week’s long-awaited “Phase 1” trade deal between China and the United States, which removed some of the uncertainty that’s hung over businesses and investors. The interim trade deal is one of a “trifecta of positive catalysts” that swept through the market last week and could help support it through the end of...

Kentucky gov's race stirs clash over casino suicide claims

Jan 27, 2020

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Entering the final days of Kentucky's bitter race for governor, Republican incumbent Matt Bevin exposed himself to a new attack by flatly denying his recorded claim that suicides happen nightly in casinos. Telling a debate audience Saturday night that the truth matters, Bevin challenged his opponent to produce a tape proving his denial wrong. Democrat Andy Beshear offered up the audiotape Sunday. The televised exchange turned Bevin's summer radio interview on WKDZ into a talking point for Democrats heading into the last full week of campaigning in the close gubernatorial contest. In the interview, Bevin claimed, without...

Jan 27, 2020

CLEVELAND — The nation's three dominant drug distributors and a big drugmaker have reached a tentative deal to settle a lawsuit related to the opioid crisis just as the first federal trial over the crisis was due to begin Monday, according to a lead lawyer for the local governments suing the drug industry. The tentative deal, details of which were to be announced later Monday, settles claims brought by the Ohio counties of Cuyahoga and Summit against distributors AmerisourceBergen, Cardinal Health and McKessen and the manufacturer Teva. After five drug manufacturers, including Johnson & Johnson, reached settlements leading up to...

Schumer calls for federal probe of contaminated baby food

Jan 27, 2020

NEW YORK — The Senate's top Democrat is calling on the Food and Drug Administration to examine a report that found dozens of baby food products contaminated with lead and other metals. Sen. Chuck Schumer says Sunday the FDA must take more action to regulate the baby food industry. A study by Healthy Babies Bright Futures found the presence of heavy metals in 95% of the 168 baby foods that were tested. The study found 95% of the food tested contained lead, arsenic, mercury or cadmium. It found one in four baby foods that were tested contained all four metals....
